Separatists of Western Togoland: 31 suspects flown to Accra to confront BNI

A joint police-military team has flown some 31 alleged members of the Western Togoland separatists to Accra from the Volta Region.

They are expected to be moved earlier on Friday, September 25, to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) office in Accra to challenge events in the area.

Thirty men and a woman are the culprits, who are assumed to be members of the Homeland Research Group Base (HSGF).

The personnel of the Ghana Police Service’s Counter-Terrorism Unit and other security agencies are currently working on what they describe as a “high-risk emergency operation.”

The secessionists, who had previously carried out a simultaneous assault on the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the Volta Region’s North Tongu Area, say they want the region to be an independent nation known as Western Togoland.

The figure is also an improvement from the original 21 detained individuals registered.

A quest undertaken at the Burma Camp Air Force base before being transferred to the Bureau showed that both of them had the ID cards of the new voters, showing that the suspects are Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, within 24 hours, the leader of the Western Togoland Restoration Front (WTRF), the military arm of the movement for independence in Western Togoland, directed all Ghanaian security forces to leave Western Togoland, claiming “they should not take any weapons or ammunition with them.”
