Liverpool manager says the injury to Fabinho is a ‘blow to the squad’

The injury to Fabinho was “exactly the last thing we wanted,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after the club’s defensive troubles mounted over Midtjylland during their Champions League win.

After standing up with a hamstring injury during the 2-0 Group D victory at Anfield, the Brazilian joined Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip on the sidelines.

Since the Netherlands international sustained a severe knee injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton on 17 October, Midfielder Fabinho has been standing in for Van Dijk in the center of defense.

Asked about the injury to Fabinho, Klopp said, “He felt his hamstring, and that’s not all correct.”

He said he was allowed to play but no sprints, which doesn’t help. We’ll see. After a scan, we’ll know more, but it’s obviously not good.
Nineteen-year-old Rhys Williams, who was on loan last season in the sixth tier of English football at the National League North Kidderminster Harriers, was sent back to partner Joe Gomez.

We’re going pretty good, so it’s a blow to a squad that we need to sort the injury now, “said Klopp, whose team at the top of Group D is two points clear.”
