Temporal EC employees express dissatisfaction with delay in allowance payments, 5 months after 2020 General Elections

Auxiliary Employees of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) who were hired as support workers for the 2020 General Elections have not yet been paid for their work.

And this has clearly angered some of them, who have taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

When the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, is asked about the topic, according to a screenshot spotted by Jerry of depunch.com, an aggrieved EC official who was engaged in December last year talked about how people try to interpret political definitions.

Jean Mensa, he claims, was adamant that the allowances must be paid by the end of December, a month after the poll. It did not come to fruition.

A letter from the EC’s Deputy Chairman, Corporate Services, dated April 26, 2021, confirmed unequivocally that the EC had begun paying these allowances. However, payment is still outstanding as of now.

Kadeonline also sighted a petition started online at  change.org by one Faisal Musah to have the allowances paid.
