JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Ayenini, GJA Journalist of the Year

Samson Lardy Ayenini of the Multimedia Network was named the 2019 P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year at the 25th Ghana Journalism Association (GJA) Awards ceremony held in Accra on Saturday, 25 October 2020.

Mr. Anyenini, who doubles as a legal practitioner, also received the Democracy and Peace Building award at night.

In delivering his address, Samson Lardy Ayenini observed that the media plays an important role in the democracy of the country.

He also warned political actors and military forces to refrain from attacking journalists, noting that this was a criminal offence.

“As we move on to the 2020 referendum, I want to echo today, keep your bad eyes and hands off the journalists. Any journalists spend sleepless nights in order to educate the public. Please work with journalists and don’t threaten them.

“Too many journalists have been targeted, and I had the pleasure of standing in for some of them. And if they do wrong or treat themselves in a criminal way , please do as is done in a democracy, ask for their arrest. No one has the right to lay their hands on them, “he said.

In total, 67 awards were given to media houses and journalists at night.
At the ceremony, 10 other journalists from the Multimedia Community were judged winners in separate categories.

Irene Emefa Apawu has received an award for Outstanding Covid-19 Reporting from JoyNews.

Mrs. Beatrice Asamani Savage, Editorial Director at GNA, brought the G.T. house. Anim Award in Responsible Journalism.

She was also awarded the Outstanding Editor Award.

Citi FM was adjudged English Radio Station of the year.
