I’m going to rebrand Witch Camps-Adwoa Safo

Gender Minister-designate Sarah Adwoa Safo has confirmed that she would work to rebrand all the witch camps in the country if accepted to be the substantive minister.
During her vetting on Wednesday February 17, she demonstrated to the Appointments Committee of Parliament that most of the women in these camps are reluctant to return home because they have established families there.

To that end, she said, she will work to ensure that they are provided with the requisite basic facilities by the government to make life comfortable inside the camps for them.

The Dome Kwabenya Lawmaker said, “If I am given the nod, what I will first do is engage and visit some of the camps and engage these alleged witches.”
“The former Procumbent Minister said, “I would further engage the conventional authorities and opinion leaders in these areas to get a very good picture of what should indeed be done.

In the past, efforts to remove these women have proved difficult, which is why I think another and fresh approach to coping with the problem would be more cautious.

So, if they see it as homes and the ministry provides them with the requisite social facilities that a state expects-they are given food, they are placed on LEAP, and they are given clothing-I think negative branding would be taken away as a witches camp.

“Adwoa Safo said she intends to go through some education with them on the need for them to also know that they are not legal in their abusive methods and can speak out and report to the police.”
