IGP alerts E / R miscreants ahead of Dec 7 polls

Inspector General Police  (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has cautioned that the legislation will be used by the Ghana Police Service to deal with any individual or party that is causing trouble during the election season.

He was at Koforidua to test the police’s tactical readiness in the Eastern Region.

A training exercise was carried out at the Eastern Regional Police Command forecourt to assess staff preparation and performance for the December elections.

The police demonstrated their preparedness in numerous fields in the Eastern Zone.
Ammunitions, cars, and others, were displayed on stand-by to respond to electoral violence.

The police are equipped to deal with established flash points using multiple policing strategies, the IGP added.

The IGP was emphatic that the legislation must catch up with individuals found guilty of political violence thus warning his men in the discharge of their duties to be non-partisan and non-bias.

He called on provincial chiefs to warn young people not to be seen as perpetrators of violence.
