Accra Hearts of Oak ran riots on a humid Sunday afternoon at Accra Sports Stadium, hammering league champions Bechem United 6-1.
The hunters were undefeated when they joined this contest, and they kept on to the hope that it would stay the same. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
The first half of the game finished goalless, and the supporters of Accra Hearts were smoking because the players lost a lot of opportunities. Daniel Afriyie was the key focus of the outcry after he missed a great chance to score.
The Hunters appeared to be keeping up well before the red card was revealed to Asante in the 45th minute.
Kosta Papic’s men capitalized on this in the second half of the game and scored a fast set of goals. The first on the score sheet was Manaf Umaru, who put the ball in the back of the net for seven minutes in the second half.
Victor Aidoo followed suit with a stunning dummy. He wasn’t through yet and scored the third goal of the game. At this point, the Bechem United players were apprehensive and error-prone. Unfortunately, they gave away punishment for them.
Ansah Botchway stood up to transform it. The founders of the League found themselves missing, and Prince Adu Kwabena took one back for them.
Nigerian middleman, Mamane Lawali couldn’t finish the day without having his name on the score sheet, so the sixth goal came from him.
Super Sub Benjamin Afutu made the final blow and scored in the 90th minute.
The findings show Hearts of Oak climbing to second place on the GPL table. Head coach, Kosta Papic is also the first manager to triumph over Bechem United.
