GHS 20,000 bail given to suspected Korle Bu blood thieves.

Two people convicted of stealing blood at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been given parole.

Bail was issued in the sum of GHS 20,000 with two sureties.

Last Saturday, Kwabena Adu Twum and Wilfred Tortsie were arrested for trying to rob multiple pints of blood that had been mobilized for various surgical procedures.

The two pleaded not guilty to both charges as they appeared before Her Worship Nana Adwoa Serwaa Adonteng of the District Magistrate Court in Adjabeng, Accra.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in court again on July 12, 2021.

They are also required to report to the police every Wednesday.

The suspects were apprehended in a special operation by the health facility’s defense staff.

The hospital’s management claimed that the duo’s nefarious actions were brought to the attention of its security officers after a tip-off.

As a result, security was put in place, and they were apprehended at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

“They were apprehended on the Medical third floor while attempting to loot multiple pints of blood that had been mobilized for numerous surgical procedures,” the hospital administration said in a statement.

One of the criminals was seen disguised as a health worker wearing a laboratory suit.

He was in possession of several stolen pints of blood, while his other accomplice sat outside in a 2018-registered Daewoo Matiz, waiting for him in the hospital car park across the administration building.
