President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that the current Covid-19 version has been checked positively by some arriving passengers at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Mr. Akufo Addo said on Sunday that these people had been separated.
Latest genomic sequencing conducted by our researchers has revealed that some arriving travelers have tested positive for new COVID-19 variants. Both these passengers were isolated.
Mr Akufo-Addo said, “In addition, work is ongoing to determine the presence and extent of the spread of new variants in the general population.”
Furthermore, Mr Akufo-Addo voiced concern about the growing number of active cases of coronavirus in the country lately.
There is a growing number of patients needing hospitalisation and intensive care. The number of serious incidents, which stood at eighteen (18) a week ago, rose sharply to one hundred and twenty-one a week ago (120).
There was no urgent case two weeks ago; we now have thirty-three (33) in our recovery center,” he said.”
He said, “Again, according to Ghana Health Service statistics, surprisingly, the considerable number of people who are severely ill are relatively young people, with no previous underlying health conditions.”
