ECOWAS has approved a revised road plan for the implementation of its unified currency in 2027.

The new road map was agreed upon by the heads of state of ECOWAS during the 59th ordinary summit in Accra on Saturday, according to Dr Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission.
“The chiefs of state had resolved to delay the execution of the convergence accord in 2020-2021 due to the shock of the pandemic,” Dr Brou explained.
“We have a new road plan and a new convergence agreement,” he says.
That will cover the years 2022-2026, with the Eco launching in 2027,” he explained.
The heads of state, according to Dr Brou, have requested the ministerial committee to examine the new roadmap and convergence pact in light of the lessons learned from the Covid-19 epidemic.
