COVID has killed nine Ghanaian doctors in the last 12 months – GMA

According to a report provided by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of nine (9) doctors in the last year.
The doctors died after coming into contact with patients who had been infected with the virus while treating them.
So far, 540 doctors have been infected with the virus throughout the same time span.

The GMA reports that If the government believes it has vaccinated enough individuals to lift the protocols, the figures should be made public, but the data on the ground does not indicate that Ghana is yet out of the woods.
Dr. Titus Beyuo, the GMA’s Deputy General Secretary, said the recent event at the funeral of former NPP General Secretary Sir John indicates that the numbers were vast and physical distance was ignored.

According to him, the GMA “asked for the heads” of the Christ Embassy’s leaders after their major outreach effort, and that the GMA would not stop at requesting that the organizers be arrested by the police.

The GMA has also requested that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) arrest and punish the event’s participants.

“It is not difficult for us to imagine the repercussions. We witnessed the events and paid a high price for it. The GMA is dissatisfied, and we hope to see some legal action taken.”

“It would be a disservice to our colleagues who have paid the ultimate price if we as medical doctors remained silent about this. We would not have paid tribute to those who have died as a result of this disease. We have lost 9 highly skilled doctors in the last 12 months, according to our latest analysis, so we will not sit back and allow this to continue.
