Twelve people have been detained in Chereponi in connection with the unrest surrounding Zuwera Mada Nashiru’s nomination as the area’s District Chief Executive on September 19, 2021.
The 12 were apprehended by authorities early on September 21, 2021, and paraded at the Nalerigu regional police station.
The police searched the suspects’ houses and detained them, led by the regional commander and three senior policemen.
Some locals protested Zuwera Mada Nashiru’s candidacy and vandalized property in the district.
Despite police claims that the neighborhood is now peaceful, there is evidence that locals are still angry.
Some Chereponi youngsters had descended on the home of S. K. Orlando, the guy they desired to have been chosen as DCE.
However, due to rain, they scattered quickly.
Following the disruptions, the Chereponi District Police Command called Aliu Sulemana, the Chereponi New Patriotic Party Constituency Chairman, and several youth leaders.
Following the debate, the Chairman of the young leaders understood the need of maintaining the peace and following the police’s suggestion not to continue with the demonstration.
