2020 BECE starts with more than 500k members.

Over 500,000 elementary school students participate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which begins on Monday across the country.

The five-day exercise is scheduled to take place in some 2.007 examination centers throughout the world.

Of the 531,705 candidates participating in the exercise, the Ghana Education Service (GES) reports that 269,419 of the candidates are male, while 262,286 are female.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer for the Operation, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, she stressed that the examinations would be carried out in full accordance with all the Covid-19 protocols.

Although wishing the candidates well, GES also urged both candidates and stakeholders to prevent both types of malpractice during the time.

“I would like to remind all contestants, managers and supervisors of the fact that the foundation of achievement in life is integrity and hard work,” part of the declaration reads.

Creation follows a partial suspension of educational practices following the coronavirus outbreak in Ghana.

Unlike previous years in which the national exercise was carried out in June, this year’s examinations, along with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) normally scheduled for May / June, were all delayed due to a pandemic.

The decision by government officials and the different parties was to endorse the steps placed in motion by Member States to deter the outbreak of the pandemic.
