17 dead, 44 passengers injured in an accident involving two buses on the road between Buipe and Tamale

Seventeen people have died between Buipe and Tamale Highway in a car crash involving two buses.

The incident occurred at Sarekyekura near Fufulso on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

Sixteen individuals were killed on the spot, consisting of 12 male adults, three female adults and one female child.

The “Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 with approximately 45 people on board each of the vehicles were traveling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi [respectively],” according to a police statement, the crash occurred.

45 others were injured and taken to the hospital in a hurry.

Forty-five people on board the two vehicles sustained different degrees of injury and were rushed for treatment to the Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital, Buipe. One female adult later died at the Holistic Medicare Hospital while receiving treatment, bringing the death toll to seventeen. ”

In addition, the statement added that efforts are being made to trace the drivers of the vehicles mentioned.

Those who perished were taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary, according to the police.

In order to assist in the investigation, efforts are being made to tow the accident vehicles to the station and trace both suspect drivers. In the meantime, the deceased individuals were sent to Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary to be preserved pending identification and autopsy, the statement noted.
